Tax Administration Jamaica is again warning taxpayers and the wider public to be careful when using the internet to do business with the agency, following efforts by scammers to collect personal details and payments through fake channels.
The authority said one recent attempt used a bogus website that pretended to process traffic ticket fine payments. Another effort was aimed at confusing customers during the income tax filing season.
TAJ said customers who need online services should go straight to its official portal at https://www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and confirm the address before starting any transaction.
According to the agency, its digital services operate on a protected platform with multiple security measures intended to safeguard taxpayer information, customer records and financial transactions.
TAJ also advised users to check web addresses carefully before selecting links or entering private information. It stressed that it does not send email or text message links asking customers to pay money, provide confidential details, or access its online services.
All online business with the tax authority, TAJ said, should begin by visiting the official website and moving from there to the service required.
Members of the public who receive questionable messages, visit suspicious websites, or get communications claiming to be from TAJ should not respond or proceed with them. The agency said such incidents should be reported immediately.
Customers who are unsure about any request should contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 888-TAX-HELP (888-829-4357) before making a payment or sharing personal information.
