Teen and two others face Gun Court over Duke Street taxi shooting

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police have arrested and charged three males, one of them a juvenile, over the shooting of a taxi driver along Duke Street in Kingston on June 23.

The accused are Raheem Dunningham, 18, of Wildman Street, Kingston; Jayden Wynter, 18, of Rhumbo Lane, Kingston; and a minor whose name is withheld.

According to the Central police, at about 1:30 p.m. a motorist collected the three after they presented themselves as intending passengers. While travelling along a stretch of Duke Street, the driver said he heard a sudden blast and felt a searing pain on the right side of his chest.

He then lost control of his vehicle and struck a car that was parked nearby. The three suspects ran from the location on foot.

Members of the public helped get the wounded driver to hospital, where doctors treated him and kept him as an inpatient.

After the probe, officers took all three into custody and laid charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, wounding with intent, and using a firearm to commit a felony. They are set to appear in the Gun Court on Friday, July 24.
