Two Motorcycle Crashes in Westmoreland Leave Riders Dead

Two motorcyclists lost their lives in separate road crashes in Westmoreland yesterday. Police identified one of the dead as 18-year-old Sinardo Whitelocke of Logwood District, Whithorn, while the second victim had not yet been named.

Investigators said the later crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Whitelocke was riding a motorcycle with a pillion along the Petersfield Main Road when, on a section of the route, a cow moved into the motorcycle's path.

Whitelocke and his passenger were rushed to hospital. He was later pronounced dead, while the pillion reportedly sustained a broken leg and remains under medical care.

Police said the earlier fatal collision occurred about 4:00 a.m. on Bay Road Main Road, where two motorcycles crashed while being driven along the corridor. The injured were taken to hospital, where an unidentified man who had been a pillion on one of the motorcycles was pronounced dead.

Since January, 103 people have died on Jamaica's roads, compared with 146 over the corresponding period last year.
