USS Nimitz Brings 4,000 US Navy Sailors To Kingston Harbour On Goodwill Visit

Kingston

The United States Navy aircraft carrier USS Nimitz has arrived in Jamaica for the closing stop of a goodwill mission, with its crew scheduled to take part in community projects and other activities.

The carrier, carrying 4,000 sailors, is berthed in Kingston Harbour and is expected to remain there until June 5. Its current deployment has carried it across South America and the Caribbean. The USS Nimitz is counted among the world’s biggest naval ships.

At a welcome ceremony, Scott Renner, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Jamaica, said the sailors would join the Jamaica Defence Force in repairing damaged schools. State Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill thanked the navy for involving university graduates so they can build needed experience.
