Vaz: Government seeking lasting fix for traffic ticket backlog

1 min readKingston

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has assured the public that the Government is developing a workable answer to the long-running traffic ticket issue.

He pointed out that although special traffic ticket days have brought short-term relief, they are costly and cannot be maintained indefinitely.

At a post-Cabinet press briefing today, Mr. Vaz disclosed that the latest traffic ticket day exercise left the Court Administration Division with expenses exceeding $28 million.

In his view, any lasting response must include repairs to the demerit framework and a firm, zero-tolerance stance on violations of the road rules.

The minister also restated that his ministry remains focused on bringing the demerit points system into force by October 1.
