KINGSTON, Jamaica — Science, Technology and Special Projects Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley says he plans to ask Cabinet to approve a proposed “House of Innovation” aimed at turning Jamaican expertise, research work and new ideas into measurable development gains.
Wheatley said the initiative is intended to provide Jamaica with a national innovation roadmap for the coming 10 years. He outlined the proposal on Tuesday while making his Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives.
As part of his presentation, Wheatley introduced the Jamaica National Science, Technology and Innovation Strategic Plan 2026 to 2035, along with the governance structure he called the House of Innovation. He told the House that the plan would be submitted to Cabinet shortly for consideration and approval.
According to Wheatley, the House of Innovation should not be viewed as a physical facility. He described it as Jamaica’s first joined-up, mission-focused system for moving science, research and innovation into practical national outcomes, while also setting out how a revamped science and technology sector should be managed and operated.
