Danville Walker has severed his link to a company that controls West Indies Petroleum Terminal (WIPT) stock valued at more than $23 billion, as he assumes leadership of Petrojam, Jamaica’s state-backed oil refinery.
Speaking to the Financial Gleaner on Monday, Walker said: “I divested my interest in that company.” He added: “The Jamaica Stock Exchange was advised.”
Petrojam’s board named Walker general manager with effect from July 1.
His exit from the WIPT group was set out in a resignation letter to West Indies Petroleum Limited chief executive Charles Chambers, taking effect June 30. Earlier coverage said the letter ended his role as senior vice-president of West Indies Petroleum Limited and every post he held in its subsidiaries and affiliates, among them WIP Terminal. That correspondence did not address his shareholding link.
Through World Energy Solutions Ltd (WESL), Walker appeared among WIPT’s ten largest shareholders, with more than 2.23 billion shares. He told the Financial Gleaner he “did not personally hold [the shares but] was the beneficial owner”.
The Financial Gleaner could not confirm who owns WESL. The firm is not listed in Jamaica, and efforts to identify its shareholders failed. Walker had not answered questions about ownership at the time of publication.
WIPT listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market in December 2025 and published its major holders at that time. Across 11.18 billion shares, the company’s market capitalisation stands at $116 billion.
At the $0.50 listing price, the WESL-linked block was worth about $1.1 billion. The stock later climbed sharply, reaching roughly $12.27 in January 2026. After Monday’s session it closed at $10.36, lifting the market value of the WESL holding well above $23 billion. Trading in WIPT has typically been thin.
