Grange sets Lewis Town school and Sabina Park as national Labour Day projects

Culture and Sports Minister Olivia Grange has said this year’s Labour Day push will centre on bringing back sports grounds, early childhood centres and other community buildings.
Officials chose that emphasis because Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica last October.
Grange told the public that two islandwide projects are planned. The first will see major repairs at the Lewis Town Early Childhood Institution in St Elizabeth, where the storm left the campus badly damaged.
The second will cover rehabilitation and new construction at Sabina Park in Kingston, among Jamaica’s leading sports stadiums.
She said the upgrades are needed so the ground can meet its schedule of international cricket, including the Sri Lanka tour of the West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League’s return to Jamaica.
On Labour Day itself, every local authority will also run its own project.
The holiday falls on Monday, 25 May, because the traditional date of 23 May lands on a Saturday.
The national theme is “One People, One Purpose: In All Things Jamaica Wins”.
