@ MNSGOVJM PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, May 1 , 2026 Ministry of National Security and Peace clarifies statements on JCF uniforms and body - worn cameras The Ministry of National Security and Peace wishes to correct the inaccurate reporting by the Jamaica Gleaner in its article published on Friday, May 1, 2026, titled “ Chang: Current JCF Uniform not designed for body - worn cams.” The article misrepresent s remarks made by the Hon. Dr. Horace Chang during his address at a pipeline project event in Montego Bay on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The Minister did not indicate that the current uniform of the Jam aica Constabulary Force (JCF) is incompatible with body - worn cameras. Instead, Minister Chang referenced the historical pinstriped uniforms worn by police officers in earlier periods, reiterating that “ those uniforms were not designed to accommodate modern policing tools such as body - worn cameras.” His remarks were made to highlight the evolution and modernisation of the JCF. The Minister underscores that the current navy blue JCF uniform represents a deliberate and strategic upgrade, designed to meet the operational demands of modern law enforcement. “The present uniform is constructed with functionality in mind, allowing officers to seamlessly integrate essential equi pment into their daily duties,” he said.
