A St Elizabeth labourer is facing gun-related charges after police reportedly discovered ammunition hidden inside a safe during an operation at his home in Santa Cruz.
Charged is 29-year-old Donte Bent of Lot 77 Elm Street, Olive Park, Santa Cruz.
According to the St Elizabeth Police, lawmen carried out a targeted operation at Bent's residence about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Armed with a search warrant, the police searched the premises and reportedly came upon a metal armoured safe in the kitchen.
Investigators said the safe was opened and searched, leading to the alleged discovery of a silver-coloured Smith & Wesson magazine containing three 9mm cartridges.
Bent was subsequently taken into custody and, following investigations, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The police say the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal weapons and ammunition from communities across St Elizabeth.
Bent is expected to appear before the court at a later date.
