Leading selectors set for Elegance ballroom night at Jamaica Pegasus in July
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A roster of well-known Jamaican selectors is preparing to deliver nostalgia, refined atmosphere, and high-tempo entertainment at Elegance: The Ballroom Experience on July 19 at the Jamaica Pegasus.
The ballroom affair is set to run from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with Master Rogj, Welton Irie, DJ VJ Snow, and Krazy Kris each pledging a night patrons will remember long after the music stops.
For DJ VJ Snow, joining the bill is a privilege, as the production marks a celebration of “class, style, and timeless music.” Known for his DJ VJ experience, Snow intends to add another layer to the evening by matching classic tracks with the original music videos that helped define them.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the reaction of the patrons as they enjoy not only the music, but also the videos that accompany the songs. Many people have never experienced seeing the original music videos while dancing to the songs, so I’m excited to bring something different and memorable to the event,” Snow told the Observer Online.
He said guests can also look forward to an audio-visual journey steeped in nostalgia, drawing on soul favourites from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
“At Elegance Ballroom Experience, you’re not just coming to hear the music — you’re coming to see the music,” Snow added.
Event promoter Isaiah Laing, ACP Christopher Phillips, graphic designer Andrew Waisome, and publicist Ramona Samuels are among those behind the production.
Seasoned selector Welton Irie is also expecting a standout evening, particularly as patrons arrive dressed to impress and ready to enjoy themselves.
“You don’t want to miss this opportunity to be entertained by some of the best in the business and the chance to dance all night,” he said.
With decades of experience behind him, Welton Irie explained that preparation comes naturally.
“Been doing it so long I know exactly what to play and when to play certain songs. After years of doing it, I can do it blindfolded.”
Patrons can expect nothing short of quality entertainment from his set.
“Expect the best of the best from whatever genre I’m selecting,” he said.
For Master Rogj, being selected for the event is an honour and an opportunity to connect with the audience through music.
“It is truly an honour to be a part of this lineup. I appreciate the opportunity to share my music and energy from Tiffany Disco with the patrons,” he said.
“Patrons can expect an unforgettable musical experience filled with elegance, versatility, nostalgia, and vibrant energy. I’ll be delivering a carefully curated blend of ballroom classics, soulful selections, and crowd favourites guaranteed to keep the dance floor alive.”
Beyond the music, guests will be treated to hors d’oeuvres and wine. The evening will also include prizes, with the best dressed couple and the best dancer each receiving US$1,000.
Patrons travelling to the event or choosing to stay at the Jamaica Pegasus can access special accommodation rates: US$180 for a single room and US$200 for a double room, plus taxes and service charges.
Krazy Kris said he is equally pleased to be part of the upscale affair.
“I am pleased to be involved and will be delivering a memorable set for guests. I am always intentional about what I present to my audience, and this will be no different,” he told the Observer Online.
