Authorities have brought further counts against a St Mary resident they accuse of targeting women he meets through online dating platforms.

Demoy Pennington, 41, a bar operator from Gordon Hall, Epsom, St Mary, is alleged to have taken a woman's handbag and used her bank card to withdraw money from her account after the pair went out in Portmore, St Catherine.

He was charged on Monday with simple larceny and unauthorised access to computer data.

According to investigators, Pennington and the woman first made contact through a dating application and later set up a meeting.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 3, he is said to have collected her in Kingston before they drove toward Hellshire Beach in Portmore, St Catherine.

Police say that along Port Henderson Road, Pennington stopped at a business and asked the woman to go inside to buy a bottle of water.

She reportedly left her handbag, which held her mobile phone, bank card and other personal belongings, in the vehicle.

When she returned, both Pennington and the car were missing, officers said.

The incident was reported to the police.

Their investigation found that $7,000 was withdrawn from the woman's account with her bank card, and that several attempts to reach Pennington were unsuccessful.

On Monday, July 6, he was positively identified during an identification parade and was subsequently charged.

His court date is still being arranged.

Pennington had already been charged in at least two other matters involving the alleged robbery of women he met through a dating app.
