The Jamaica Fire Brigade is to inspect the KFC outlet in downtown Kingston after an explosion at the restaurant on Wednesday left two people injured.

Senior Superintendent Patrick Gooden, who heads the brigade’s Kingston and St. Andrew division, said firefighters had not received an official report about the incident. He said a team would visit the site to assess the location and determine what took place.

Gooden said it was unusual for the brigade not to be contacted after an incident of that nature. He noted that while some people in remote areas may delay calling firefighters, they sometimes approach the brigade later when they need confirmation or support.

Restaurant operations manager Christopher Powell confirmed that two people were hurt in the blast. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The company said steps were taken immediately to secure the restaurant and ensure emergency support was provided. It said its attention remained on assisting affected staff members and keeping employees and customers safe.
