Negril restaurateur killed, Czech doctor injured in beachside robbery

A 36-year-old Negril businessman was killed and a Czech medical doctor visiting Jamaica was wounded during a shooting and robbery on Norman Manley Boulevard in Westmoreland on Friday night.

The dead man has been named as Nashon McGibbon, also known as ‘Bubba’. He was a business operator from Tigres Lane in West End, Negril.

According to the police, McGibbon was on a part of the beach close to his Flag City Restaurant, near Cayenne Beach, about 8:40 p.m. He was there with three members of staff.

The doctor, who was dining at the restaurant, had reportedly just received his meal shortly before the gunmen struck.

Investigators were reportedly told by witnesses that two men arrived at the spot on a motorcycle. Both had hoodies pulled over their heads.

The men allegedly approached the table where McGibbon and the others were sitting, drew handguns and began shooting.

McGibbon tried to escape, but the attackers pursued him into an open field. He later fell there after being struck by bullets.

Police say the gunmen also took two bags with cash during the incident before leaving the area on the motorcycle.

When the police arrived after being called to the scene, they found McGibbon face down with several gunshot injuries to the upper section of his body.

The Czech visitor, who had been seated near McGibbon when the shots were fired, was also wounded, sustaining gunshot injuries to his left shoulder.

He was carried to a medical facility in Negril and admitted in serious but stable condition.

McGibbon was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The police are continuing their investigation. Up to publication time, no one had been arrested.
