HEART instructor outlines renewable energy career paths for trainees

Delano Grant, a renewable energy instructor at the HEART Trust National Tool and Engineering Institute, says the field is growing and gives trainees a path into clean energy work that can help reduce climate change impacts.

Once students grasp both the theory and the hands-on skills, Grant said, they are better placed to put clean energy approaches into practice. Completing a renewable energy course, he added, can lead to several career options.

Among the roles he named were solar photovoltaic installer, wind generation system technician and hydropower generation technician. At a more senior level, he said, graduates can work as project managers or contractors on renewable energy schemes. He also pointed to entrepreneurship, calling business ownership in the sector a favourite outcome.

Grant said he is driven by skills training and that his post at the HEART Trust National Tool and Engineering Institute has given him a way to shape learners and connect practical work to renewable energy.
