Kemelia Paul, a 13-year-old student of Excelsior High School, has died after being stabbed in May while trying to stop a dispute at her Harbour View home.
The teen had been hospitalised from May 9 and died exactly a month later, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Her mother, Josephine Mitchell, told CVM News that Kemelia developed a lung infection.
According to the report, Kemelia was wounded in the stomach by her aunt's former boyfriend after she stepped into an argument involving the man and her aunt at her father's family home. She stayed in critical condition and was briefly comatose.
Police said 29-year-old Kemar Mitchell surrendered after the incident and was subsequently charged. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
