Suspect Charged in Fatal Kingston 13 Shooting

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Kingston 13 shooting that ended in tragedy has now led to multiple serious charges being laid against a young man in police custody.
Andre Brown, a 21-year-old otherwise called “Biggs” of Fitzgerald Avenue, Kingston 13, has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony in connection with the March 1 killing along Freeman Lane.
The deceased has been identified as Tyrick Peart, 26, of Bertram Lane, Kingston 13.
Reports from the police indicate that about 9:00 pm, Peart was allegedly approached by Brown, who was armed and travelling with other individuals. It is reported that gunfire erupted, after which the attackers fled the scene. When the shooting ended, Peart was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, Brown was later taken into custody during an operation in St Ann on Monday.
He was formally charged after giving recorded statements and participating in a question-and-answer session with investigators.
He is now awaiting a court date, which is being arranged.
